On December 21st, Subcomandante Marcos and his Zapatista Army – the EZLN – demonstrated the largest show of force in the movements history. The Zapatistas orchestrated and executed a series of silent marches throughout Chiapas, which had 50,000 people and shut down 5 cities in the region. On December 30th, Subcomandante Marcos issued his first communique in a long time, which reads like a manifesto for the revolution’s near future. In the communique, Marcos goes after the PRI and claiming that the mainstream media “tried to make us disappear, first with servile and opportunistic slander, later with cunning and complicit silence.” As you can tell by reading the latest manifesto and watching the video below, the Zapatista’s aren’t going away any time soon.
